Imperialism is a browser-based game set in the 18th and 19th centuries and gives you the opportunity to grow a small state into a powerful empire. It is the era of Frederick the Great and Napoleon in Europe, Shaka Zulu in Africa, and Tipu Sultan and the powerful Maratha Confederacy in India. An age when battles were fought between lavishly uniformed troops and gentlemen-officers wrote home about the glory of war.
In Imperialism you can train regiments and deploy them to distant theaters of war, found cities and monitor their growth, direct your economy to produce the resources you need, and engage in all the byzantine deceptions and negotiations of diplomacy with other players to finally emerge as the hegemon in your particular continent. For Imperialism offers over 25 factions, each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses, spread across 5 regions, each with their own troop types. Imperialism's war system allows for numerous battle-winning strategies, making all of the units available in the game viable and effective. There are also many ways to building a powerhouse economy: you can build many smaller cities, or focus your attention on a handful of metropolises.

Imperialism also has coded into it certain features that make the game culture more fun and rewarding. Players in different regions, for example, cannot attack one another until they have navies. Since navies are expensive, Imperialism allows for unique political cultures to develop in each region, gives all players the chance to enjoy power, instead of living at the mercy of an all-powerful world-empire. The 8 world currency zones also add richness to player diplomacy: they can encourage players of the same zone to cooperate, but they can also encourage exciting rivalries between zones. A world market allows players to make the most of their faction's economic strengths and buy the resources they cannot produce that well. Other unique features of Imperialism include its cities, which grow with every turn used, and its regiment-based war-system, which gives great strategic flexibility to the player, and the ability for regiments to become more experienced with each battle they fight.

If you want to experience the glory, excitement, and unbridled empire-building that was the 18th century, join Imperialism!
